Facebook Housing Developers Platform

Facebook just opened a Developers Platform which allows anyone that knows how to write a program to now make applications within the facebook website. The kicker is that the platform allows the applications to get at everyone's facebook data, allowing for some pretty serious social networking to go on. So far over 70 high profile companies have signed up and have already developed applications build on the platform.

The platform is now open to the public, so I am contemplating a project to work on based on the platform. I am thinking I want to do a sublet application that has google maps integrated with it, or some sort of housing application. The possibilities are endless with a housing application, since you could form a group within facebook and go on a housing search together. I don't want to release too much information on my new facebook housing application in case someone steals my idea. But hopefully I can work on it over the summer.

If you think that there was a huge outrage last Fall when facebook released the news feed, just wait til everyone's data is being accessed by 3rd party companies. As far as social networking goes, this is a massive step in opening up the internet and creating a huge network of people.
