Starting Something Up

I've got alot of stuff going on right now. I am doing a web project for my friend Al, who came up with an idea to start an online community connecting business's and college students. Sort of like a facebook type deal, but instead of connecting friends, it's connecting students with jobs. You'll be able to upload your resume, create a profile, and create an online portfolio that can include your past paper and pretty much anything you want employeers to see. I've made some pretty good headway on it right now, and it seems like Al and his friends are going to go out and promote it.

I also am working on building up my mother's website. The development can be seen at http://www.trontown.com. I originally planned on creating it into an online store, but opted not to because of all the work it would take. Plus, the competition is so stiff with bn.com and amazon. I was planning on integrating it with google checkout and then uploading all the products to the froogle database, but those are very daunting tasks in themselves, so I am opting on just doing a redesign, and putting my php and mysql skills to work.

The path that I am taking is creating a content management system CMS. This will allow me to create the whole website, and then not have my mom calling me up every day asking me to make changes to the website. She will be able to go and do them herself, saving me, lots of time. I also figure once I have this CMS in place, I'll be able to market it to other companies, and use the butterflybooks site as an example. I plan on becoming a freelance web designer next semester in school, and try and make cash that way instead of getting a part time job that pays crap money. We'll see how that works... wish me luck, leave some comments and suggestions!
