Website Optimization Email Tips

I recently received an e-mail asking for some assistance with a website. Here is the e-mail and my response, I hope it helps out a few other people too.

I found your website on the 1st page of google (well done). I have only had my web site running for 1 year and I believe I use mySQL and PHP, the problem is I do not know where to go from here. Our partner left and then started up for himself 6 months ago and is on the 1st page of google free for office furniture. Do you have any ideas what I am not doing. Someone else has told me it is to do with my page header coding which is in white and they say that google will not pick up this coding? I am not IT literate except how to turn it on

There are a number of aspects that google looks at when taking into account what ranking your site should have for specific keywords. I would have to take a closer look at your site in order to target the problem.

The main thing search engines, especially google, look for is websites that have other websites linking to them. You get bonus points if the linking websites are relevant to your sites topic, such as an office furniture site linking to your friends office furniture.

Google also likes fresh relevant content, which is why it's a good idea to always house a blog on your website. Right now, that is where I can a get alot of my search engine traffic. People are more likely to link to a specific blog post that interests them, and it also makes your website more content rich.
